Your communication is only as good as the response you get
A combination of Speech & Language Therapy with Life Coaching can improve your:
- Presentation skills – a challenging area for so many people
- Speaking confidence – first impressions last so let’s make yours count
- Ability to get your message across – it’s not what you say it’s how you say it
A survey compiled in the USA asked people what they were most afraid of and public speaking came out top of the list – it even rated higher than death! In the UK fear of speaking is rated at number 2 on the chart – right behind a fear of spiders! So, if you fear speaking out in public you may have concerns about:
- What if you freeze up – how do you get out of that?
- What to do with your hands and how to sit or stand without looking like a nervous wreck
- What to say! Even though only 5% of the words we say have an impact on communication it is essential to be prepared and to know what you are talking about
- How to keep your audience awake and what to do to keep their attention on you and not their shopping list!
I’m a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and Health Professionals Council and you will benefit from my 14 years front line experience as a Speech & Language Therapist, in the NHS as well as an even wider range of experience in the importance of communication and how it can maximise your performance and potential.
Top 3 Tips for Presentations:
- Be prepared; know your stuff and practice so that you can spend the time engaging your audience, not your notes or the screen!
- Remember to pause, this gives the audience time to take in what you are saying and heightens the impact
- Give brief but regular eye contact to your audience – it makes them feel included without scaring them
